Market Products User Help Page

Introduction

Market products are an essential part for managing prices data in the system

The metadata for the products must be entered from Metadata Management > Common > Classified Products page and then set up by adding a market product here.

The relevant metadata for a Market Product is:

  • Market

  • Product

  • Source Document

  • Unit

  • Currency

  • Price type (Retail, Wholesale)

  • Product source (Local, International Import)

  • Staple food? (Yes, No)

Market Products is a dataseries in the Price domain in KDW Data Warehouse (KDW)

The Market Products data in KDW consists of dataseries (Market Products dataseries) and datapoint (Market Price) records.

This page provides information on both dataseries and datapoints.

Market Price (Datapoints)

Search or filter market product dataseries

The Market Products page lists the currently available market products in the system in a grid format (see below) with column headers: Market, Product, Source document, Unit, Currency, Price type, Product source, Staple food?

The Market Products dataseries page can be opened from KDW menu: Dataseries Management > Price > Market Products

You can also search the list by entering a search criteria in the Search text-box at the top of the Market Products page and clicking on the button to search and display matching results in the grid (see below).

In addition to searching the market products data with a free-text criteria, the system also allows you to Filter the records by specifying one or more of the following filter criteria:

  • Market Country

  • Product

To set a filter criteria, you can use the button at the top-right side of the page (see below). When you specify a filter by selecting a value from the drop-down list, the system will automatically apply the filter and display the records that match all the filters you have specified.

On the Market Products screen, you can also search for any entries and filter By Scale and By allowing for assistance

Adding Market Products

This is a screen where a user can add new Market Products data by providing the geographical unit, scale, scenario and the source document for the dataseries. A user can also add a description.

Before you can add a Market Product, you will need to register the Product in the system using Metadata Management > Common > Classified Products page.

  1. From the Market Products page, click on the Add market product button

  2. In the Add market product page that opens, enter all the required information. Please note that the fields shown in bold font are all required fields and the remaining fields are optional.

  3. Click on one of the buttons to save the data into the system. The system will Save the data and display a proper message about the success of the save operation.

Save buttons

  • Save and add another - Saves the entered Market Products information and provides an empty form to save another record.

  • Save and continue editing - Saves the entered data and stays on the current form for further updates

  • Save - Saves the entered data and opens the Market Products page displaying the available data in the system

Editing Market Products

An existing Market Products information in the system can be modified and saved as needed.

To Edit a given Market Products:

  1. From the list in Market Products page, click on the link within the Market column of the record you would like to edit.

  2. The system displays the Change Market Products page as shown below.

  1. Modify the data in the page as needed and click on one of the buttons to save the modified records.

  2. The system will save the data accordingly and display success/error message.

Deleting Market Product Dataseries

An existing Market Product dataseries in the system can be deleted if necessary. The system allows for a deletion of one or more records at a time as given below:

Deleting a Single Market Products

  1. From the list in Market Products page, click on the link within the Market column of the record you would like to delete.

  2. The system displays the Change Market Products page as shown below.

  1. Click on the button at the bottom-left side of the page to delete the record.

  2. The system will open another page with summary information on the data you are about to delete including a list of Market Price (datapoints) that belong under the Market Products dataseries you selected. It will also display a prompt with a confirmation message Are you sure? and provides you with buttons at the bottom of the page.

  3. If you are certain that the records can be deleted, you can click on Yes, I am sure button. If you are not certain, please click on the link No, take me back. Please note that deleted records cannot be recovered and this functionality should be used sparingly.

Deleting one or more Market Products

It is possible to delete multiple Market Products data from the system by following the steps below:

  1. From the list in Market Products page, select one or more Market Products you would like to delete.

  2. From the Action drop-down list at the top, select Delete selected market products

  3. Click on the

  4. The system will open another page with summary information on the data you are about to delete with a list of Market Price that belong under Market Product Dataseries you selected. It will also display a prompt with a confirmation message Are you sure? and provides you with buttons at the bottom of the page.

  5. If you are certain that the records can be deleted, you can click on Yes, I am sure button. If you are not certain, please click on the link No, take me back. Please note that deleted records cannot be recovered and this functionality should be used sparingly.

Importing Market Product Dataseries

A market products data that is available in a file with various formats (XLS, CSV, TSV, JSON, YAML) can directly be imported into the system using the Import functionality.

Users can upload a bulk file containing columns geographic_group, fewsnet_region, country, market, product, product_name, unit, price_type, currency, product_source, is_staple_food, data_source_document, data_source_organization, schedule, data_usage_policy, location, first_period_date, last_period_date, datapoint_count, datasourcedocument, market, product, start, end, dataseries_ptr, id, created, modified, specialization_type, name, description, datasets, is_calculated, _country, datausagepolicy and upload into the system the Import functionality.

To import Market Products data in a file into the system:

  1. From the Market Products pages, click on the Import Market Products button.

  2. The system opens the Import page where you can upload the file and specify the file format/type by selecting a value from the Format drop-down list.

  3. Click on the Submit button to start the import process.

  4. After the processing the data in the uploaded file, the system will display the summary of number of records that are:

    • New - the records in the file to be newly added to the system.

    • Updated - the records in the file that will be updated into an existing data in the system.

    • Delete - the records in the file that will be deleted from the system.

    • Skip - the records in the file that will be skipped.

    • Error - the records in the file that has error in the data and will not be added to the system.

    • Total - total number of records in the file.

  5. To continue with the import, please click on the button at the right side of the page.

  6. The Market Products dataseries data will be imported and appropriate message will be displayed.

Exporting Market Products

A user can be able to extract/export the Market Products in form of a CSV formatted file.

  1. From the list in Market Products page, click on the Export Market Products button.

  2. The system opens the Export page where you can specify the file format/type by selecting a value from the Format drop-down list.

  3. Click on the Submit button to start the export process.

  4. The system will display a Save file dialog box for you to select the file download location on your computer. Specify the location you would like the exported file to be saved.

  5. The file will be saved with the selected format on your computer

Downloading Market Products

The system allows downloading of Market Products data in CSV format for the selected Market Products dataseries.

To download Market Products data:

  1. From the list in Market Products page, click on the link within the Market column of the record you would like to download.

  2. The system displays the Change Market Products page.

  3. Click on the button at the top-right side of the page.

  4. When the system displays the save file dialog box, save the file in the desired location on your local computer.

Browsing Market Products

The system also allows an on-line viewing of Market Products.

To Browse Market Products:

  1. From the list in Market Products page, click on the link within the Market column of the record you would like to browse.

  2. The system displays the Change Market Products page.

  3. Click on the button at the top-right side of the page.

  4. Then the system displays the Data Series Explorer page where you can see the details of the datapoints in the Market Products including the Value and Previous Value of each datapoints.

Viewing Charts of Market Products

The system displays the datapoints in an Market Products in a flexible time-series chart format allowing you to easily see the datapoint values over a period of time.

To view Market Products chart:

  1. From the list in Market Products page, click on the link within the Market column of the record you would like to chart.

  2. The system displays the Change Market Products page.

  3. Click on the button at the top-right side of the page.

  4. Then the system displays the Data Series Chart page where you can see the details of the datapoints in the Market Products as a trend-line chart.

The Charts page will let you select the date range for the datapoints that you would like included in the display by:

  • Setting the Zoom period to 6 months, YTD, 1 year, 2 year, 3 year, 4 year, 5 year, or All datapoints in the Market Products dataseries

  • Specifying a free start date (from date) and end date (to date)

Viewing History of Market Products

The system tracks various events that are performed against an Market Products data including the addition, updates or deletion of data in the system.

To View the history of an Market Products:

  1. From the list in Market Products page, click on the link within the Market column of the record you would like to view the history.

  2. The system displays the Change Market Products page.

  3. Click on the button at the top-right side of the page.

  4. Then the system displays the Change history page where you can see the details of the updates and other operations carried out against the selected Market Products record (see below).

Search or Filter Market Price data

The Market Price page lists the currently available Market price datapoints in a grid format (see below) with column headers: Data series, Period Date, Collection Status, Value

The Market Price page can be opened from KDW menu: Dataseries Management > Data Points > Market price.

You can search the list by entering a search criteria in the Search text-box at the top of the Market Price page and clicking on the button to search and display matching results in the grid (see below).

In addition to searching the Market Price records with a free-text criteria, the system also allows you to Filter the records by specifying a Country filter criteria:

We can add Market Price datapoints into the system using the import functionality described below

Editing Market Price

An existing Market Price information in the system can be modified and saved as needed.

To Edit a given Market Price:

  1. From the list in Market Price page, click on the link within the Data series column of the record you would like to edit.

  2. The system displays the Change Market Price page as shown below.

Deleting Market Price

An existing Market Price record which is not yet Published in the system can be deleted if necessary. The system allows for a deletion of one or more records at a time as given below:

  3. If you are certain that the record can be deleted, you can click on Yes, I am sure button. If you are not certain, please click on the link No, take me back. Please note that deleted records cannot be recovered and this functionality should be used sparingly.

Deleting one or more Market Price

  1. From the list in Market Price page, select one or more Market Price records you would like to delete.

  2. From the Action drop-down list at the top, select Delete selected unpublished Market Price

  3. Click on the

Importing Market Price

Users can upload/import a bulk file containing market, product, price_type, unit, currency, data_source_document, period_date, datapoint_status, value, dataseries, datacollectionperiod, country, product_source, is_staple_food, collection_date, id, created, modified, status, status_changed, specialization_type, datacollection, description, high_value, ci95_low, ci95_high into the system using the Import functionality.

To import Market Price data in a file into the system:

  1. From the Market Price pages, click on the Import Market Price button or you can open the same page from Dataseries Management > Import > Import Market Prices menu.

  2. The system opens the Import page where you can upload the file and specify the file format/type by selecting a value from the Format drop-down list.

  3. Click on the Submit button to start the import process.

  4. After the processing the data in the uploaded file, the system will display the summary of number of records that are:

    • New - the records in the file to be newly added to the system.

    • Updated - the records in the file that will be updated into an existing data in the system.

    • Delete - the records in the file that will be deleted from the system.

    • Skip - the records in the file that will be skipped.
